Bark in the Park draws dog lovers, raises funds to support Toledo Humane Society

Nearly 400 walkers, runners and volunteers along with their furry friends participated in the Toledo Humane Society’s 37th annual Bark in the Park held June 4 at the Shops at Fallen Timbers.

This year’s event raised $76,952 for THS. “This is our second largest fund-raiser of the year,” said Abbey Hall, development manager.

Ms. Hall said the event, which was emceed by Mike Mitchell and Lissa Guyton, would not have been possible without the support of sponsors and help of 35 volunteers.

“We are humbled and thankful for our event sponsors, fund-raisers and overall community who helped make the day such a success,” she said, adding, “Every dollar raised at Bark in the Park goes right back to the animals we care for and we know they are feeling extra grateful.”

Above, Scott Stigall of State Farm Insurance and his daughter Brooke hold the family dogs, Wesley and Wyatt, who chose to turn the other cheek. Behind them are Mr. Stigall’s son Evan and Jaimi Lind. Mr. Stigall was among the proud Pup sponsors. They handed out small fire hydrants with dog waste bags to participants.

At right, while many dogs walked or ran with their pet owners, others hitched a ride like this pup, who enjoyed the view from his perch in a backpack.
