Sawmill residents asked to remove structures on twp. land

At the July 5 meeting, Springfield Township administrator Mike Hampton said that letters specific to issues with each of the 19 property owners in the Sawmill subdivision have been written.

The letters, prepared in conjunction with township law director Gary Sommers, will instruct homeowners to remove any fencing or other structures they erected on township-owned acreage.

The property owners on Sawmill Run Road have been maintaining and using land along Cairl Creek. Mr. Hampton said some have constructed fencing that extends beyond their boundaries and onto the township property.

Because the acreage is in the floodway and flood plain, no structures may be built there, he explained.

Mr. Sommers added that the trustees have no choice but to remove them since the township is under citation from the Lucas County engineer.

Mr. Hampton said he spoke with one of the property owners and he “understands the issue.”
