Springfield High School News

Just like during the recent Thanksgiving holiday feast, I’m pacing myself because there’s a lot on our plates. This December I hope to share all the upcoming opportunities planned for or by our Blue Devils. I’m using the calendar as my guide as I offer that:

•Herb’s Heroes’ Teddy Bear Toss

Alumna Dawn Jones Pratt created this organization to honor her father after his death. Together with a legion of volunteer elves, including daughter (current SHS student) Jocelyn Leasure, Herb’s Heroes keeps in the magic of the season by sharing gifts, meals and more for neighbors in need, including a significant number of families in the district. Join us at the Friday, December 2, home basketball game and toss a teddy or two to make the holidays bright for many children. For more information, including opportunities to help during a “wrapping party,” visit herbs heroes.org.

•Happy Holland Days

The village of Holland’s annual tree lighting event has grown and will take place on Saturday, December 3. We’re excited that, again this year, members of our band will lead the way for Santa and area celebrities (that includes all the attendees, by the way) to the community tree, so it can be lit for the season at 6 p.m.

•Breakfast with Santa

This annual tradition, coordinated by the JROTC boosters and cadets, helps sort the “nice” from the “naughty,” and promises a morning of great food and fun.

And, of course, the annual toy drive has kicked-off. I’ll focus a little more attention on this awesome leadership lab for all students, but in the meantime, if you want info, visit springfieldtoydrive .com.
