Monclova fire chief retires

After leading the Monclova Township fire department for 31 years, Monclova Township Fire Chief Kevin Bernhard retired, effective April 30.

Chief Bernhard began his fire service career like most of the township’s firefighters as a volunteer and became a full-time fire fighter in March 1995. He has been Monclova Township fire chief since 1992.

Before his service with Monclova, the chief studied law enforcement at the Criminal Justice Training Center and began his public service career as a police officer for the Holland Police Department.

Until a new fire chief is named, Assistant Fire Chief Matt Homik is in command of the department.

Monclova Township is seeking candidates for the position. Interested persons should submit an email of interest and résumé to Harold Grim, Monclova Township administrator, at hgrim@monclovatwp.org.

A search committee and national search for fire chief is expected to begin in the immediate future.
