Springfield High School News

On the evening of Tuesday, April 25, in the school’s George Tombaugh Auditorium, President Corinne Shull welcomed current members, candidates, family members, faculty, administrators, school board members and other guests to the 2023 induction ceremony for the Springfield High School Frances L. Simon Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS). She was assisted by fellow officers Audrey Hiser, vice president; Ava Ball, treasurer; Isabella Bobach, secretary; Jessica Mason, service coordinator, and Morgan Amick, public relations.

Inducted that evening were 16 members of the junior and senior classes, who have displayed in their school lives the worthy objectives of the NHS.

Membership is an extremely high achievement. It represents the fundamental objectives for which high schools were started and gives recognition to those who have most nearly achieved these desired goals. Most other honors awarded in high school are partial, in that they recognize only special ability, skill or talent, but the honor society looks upon education as a combination of four important aspects of life: character, scholarship, leadership and service.

The aspects of the induction that most enjoy is listening as presenters read the inductee’s reflections on that teacher who had a significant impact on their scholastic careers.

To a student, the impact always exceeded course content and touched on important life lessons–something we know Springfield faculty provide through both words and daily examples.

The influence of parents, mentors, extended family and those who have also served as role models throughout their lives–members of our board of education and the other administrators who presented the individual students for membership also were recognized.

We look forward to reporting in future articles how our student leaders are further influencing the culture, character and academic strengths associated with SHS. Congratulations again to the students, their families, mentors and event organizers for another exceptional celebration.
