Leader academy, BPA host carnival

On May 12, the Springfield chapters of Chick-fil-A Leader Academy (CFA) and Business Professionals of America (BPA) hosted a carnival in the field house lobby of the high school for district students identified with special learning needs. The students, along with teachers and aides from the district's three elementary schools, Holland Intermediate, the middle and high schools were in attendance.

Carnival activities consisted of games of skill and chance including fishing, ring toss, corn hole and duck pond. There also was a photo booth, face painting and balloon animals.

Organizers expressed appreciation to Justin Amburgey, owner/franchisee for the Chickfil- A restaurant on Airport Highway, for sponsoring the academy, a national high school leadership program sponsored by Chick-fil-A operators, that focuses on equipping students to make an impact through action.

SHS students participate in efforts to gain and use leadership skills throughout the school year. Members of the high school’s BPA worked with their CFA classmates to plan and coordinate the event with assistance from advisors Scott Bachman and Bonita Adams.
