Red Cross experiencing blood shortage, drives planned

The American Red Cross has been experiencing a decline in blood and platelet donations throughout the summer. All blood types are needed and appreciated, but types O negative, O positive and B negative are the most crucial during the immediate future.

Due to the necessity of donations, the Red Cross is partnering with Warner Bros. for the theatrical release of sharkstuffed thriller “Meg 2: The Trench” to celebrate a summer of sharks and encourage more donations.

Anyone who donates through August 12 will be entered into a sweepstakes for a three-night getaway to New York City with transportation to the Long Island Aquarium for a shark dive experience, along with $1000 for various expenses and spending money during the trip.

All participants will get a $10 e-gift card to a movie merchant of their choice as part of the promotion.

There are local blood drives being held as follows: Maumee

•Friday, August 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Shops at Fallen Timbers, 3100 Main Street.
