Springfield Middle School is excited to welcome several new staff members for 2023-24. In sixth grade, Jani Nickey is coming to us for science. She previously was with Toledo Public Schools. Mrs. Nickey will be working with Team Tsunami.

In seventh grade, SMS added Delaney Smith. Miss Smith is a recent graduate from the University of Toledo. She will be the new math teacher with Team Maverick. Also in seventh grade, a new math teacher was added to Team Titan. Jordan Schiavone came from the Anthony Wayne school district and is going into her third year of teaching. In eighth grade, the math department added Isabel Chaplin. Miss Chaplin graduated from Bowling Green and begins her education career with Team Legacy. Also in eighth grade, Team Epic adds Samantha Oswald. Mrs. Oswald previously taught in Toledo Public for a number of years before coming to Springfield. She will be teaching with the English language arts department.

Stephanie Hamilton is a familiar name and face to the district, having previously worked in Springfield before moving west. She returns to her role as a intervention specialist, providing support for students across different grade levels.

Kurtis Tucker previously was a school counselor at Springfield High School, and moved to SMS to support the incoming sixth graders after the departure of Morgan Roe. Mr. Tucker will provide counseling services to the Class of 2030, as he follows them for the next three years through SMS.

And last, SMS brought back their reading intervention program, which will be serviced by two teachers. Dr. Sarah Bond and her family are relocating from Pennsylvania and she will provide support for our seventh and eighth graders, while Ashley Zeiler comes from Michigan and will be working with our sixth graders during the upcoming year.
