Springfield Middle School News

On Wednesday, December 6, the Springfield Middle School seventh and eighth grade choirs came together in the Springfield High School auditorium to perform their first concert of the year. Seventh grade selections included “Deck the Hall with Jingle Bells” and “Agnus Dei,” and eighth grade selections included “Hine Ma Tov” and “December in My Hometown.” The concert finished with the combined choirs performing “Carol of the Bells” and “Irish Blessing.” Congratulations to the seventh and eighth grade choirs on an outstanding performance.

Six students were selected to represent SMS in the OMEA All-District Honors Choir. They are eighth grade students Ian Thomas, Megan Thebeau and Ma’lajah Gold and seventh grade students Jada Townsend, Sawyer Scott and Zahra Edwards. These students will sing with other students from the northwest Ohio area at a concert in the Stranahan Theatre on Sunday, January 14. Congrats to these students.

The 2023-24 wrestling season kicked off this past weekend for the SMS wrestling team. The boys traveled and competed in the Fremont Titsworth Tournament at Fremont Ross High School. A total of four Blue Devils placed. Cameron Matthews (86 pounds), fourth; Maddon Stoll (110 pounds), fourth; Matthew Pawlowski (205 pounds), fifth, and Xavier Webert (205 pounds) lead the Blue Devils with a third place finish.

The highlight of the weekend was the inaugural season of the girls wrestling program, who traveled to Bryan High School to compete in the Golden Bear Invite. Adria Spears (110 pounds) took the mat first and pinned Mazzie Luce from Toledo-Whitmer to become the first female wrestler to win a match for SMS. Aubrey Wade (122 pounds) led the Blue Devils over the weekend with a 4-1 record. Wade took third overall in the tournament to become the first female Blue Devil in school history to place at a tournament.
