One of the things I pride myself on is being able to attend a lot of events for the students. Students enjoy seeing their teachers there and yes sometimes they even like seeing the principal. I’m always so excited for the kids and it just makes for an awesome time as you watch them compete, perform, play or just represent our community. During these times, I am reminded how lucky I am to be the principal of Springfield High School.
Recently though, I got called out of town unexpectedly and missed out on one of those events that I hoped to see. I had been talking all week to a couple of the students that I would be there and watch them compete.
If you did not know, I am an old wrestling coach and getting to watch the wrestlers is harder than it used to be. Many of the meets are out of town or on weekends and not all wrestlers compete on the same day.
The women’s wrestling team was going to be in town and on a day that I was free. Of course, as I said earlier, my situation required my attention elsewhere, but as usual Mrs. Steinmiller stepped up and agreed to go in my place.
Ironically, even though I wasn’t there, Mrs. Steinmiller shared regular updates and it was just as exciting for me to hear about their success.
Our women’s wrestling team has really grown and done a great job. I was excited for the students and I wanted to be there for the seniors in particular.
Mrs. Steinmiller shared much of their progress. A little bit later in the evening, my wife shared the BCSN’s X feed, which featured one of our students.
Consider this for our women wrestlers, Springfield High school has had the sport for two years and we have had many young women compete, had champion wrestlers and now will put a second student athlete into college for women’s wrestling.
In all, congratulations to our women’s wrestlers for this season, but from the weekend I missed, a special shout out to two seniors. Congratulations to first place champion Ryleigh Mercer and third place finisher Evelyn Blue. Great job representing the Blue Devils.
