Twp. trustees set public hearings for July

At the June 4 meeting, the Springfield Township trustees set two public hearings for their first meeting in July to consider a zoning request and text amendment to the zoning resolution.

The trustees will address a zoning change request from RA-4 rural residential to R-A suburban residential for property at 8020 Hill Avenue.

Jacob Barnes, planning director, said a developer submitted plans for a 52-lot single-family subdivision.

The second item to be addressed is a text amendment for a section of the code pertaining to economic development districts. The hearings will be at 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 2.

Barnes also presented the zoning permit report for May. The department issued 18 permits and collected fees of $830.

“There were four new dwellings, which is always good to see,” he said, adding that with the summer season, “we are off to a busy start.”

Permits also were issued for accessory structure, four; fencing, three; decks and new occupant, two apiece, and addition and commercial remodel, one each.

The planning director noted that with the unusually wet spring, they have received a number of complaints regarding overgrown vegetation.

He said they usually hear these types of complaints around June 1, “but growth started early this year.”

Barnes concluded his report with an update on the Ohio Township Association webinar on May 22.

“I was the featured speaker and spoke on development disasters and how to avoid them.” He believes the key is “essentially to have good regulations in place.”
