‘Pizza Palooza’ returns to Centennial Terrace July 19-20

Pizza Palooza is returning to Centennial Terrace, organized by the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce.

The event will be held on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20, from 5 to 11 p.m.

An estimated crowd of over 6,000 guests is expected to attend and vote for their favorite pizza restaurant. Awards will be given for judge’s choice and people’s choice. Live music and children’s activities, including face painting and bouncehouses, will also be at the event.

Twelve pizza vendors vying for the title of best pizza restaurant in Northwest Ohio include Bambino’s, Half Time, Romeo’s, Mama Mary’s, Vikings Pizzeria, Jet’s Pizza, J-Cups, Dandino’s, Bombay Kitchen, Hindsight Pizza, The V.I. and Mike’s Pizza.

Mayberry Ice Cream, Susie Lynne’s Lemonade and Olde Tyme Kettle Korn will all have booths at the event as well.

Voting will take place on site via iPads. Event-goers are given one vote for the duration of the event, and voting will close at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Pizza Palooza is held in honor of long-time participant Jim Jacob, founder of J-Cup’s Pizza, who lost his battle with canceer in 2019, by presenting the fourth annual “Jim Jacob Strength and Spirit Award.”

The staff of the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce and Centennial Terrace will identify the individual, sponsor or vendor who exemplifies sportsmanship, a good attitude and high integrity, all qualities that Jim possessed both as a vendor at Pizza Palooza and in his everyday life.

Admission is $8 for attendees 13 and older, while childen 12 and under are free. Price of admission does not include food, as vendors will be selling cheese, pepperoni and specialty pizza by the slice, with the option to purchase whole pizzas. Beverages will also be available.
