Lucas County sheriff’s office to hold citizens police academy

The Lucas County sheriff’s office will hold a citizens police academy beginning Wednesday, September 4 and running through November 8. The 10-week program will be held each Wednesday from 6 to 8:15 p.m., at the Springfield Township hall, 7607 Angola Road, Holland.

“The program will provide citizens with a look at the values, policies and operations of the Lucas County sheriff’s office,” explained Deputy Miquael Warren, township community service officer.

Topics to be covered include patrol operations and traffic stops; use of force; legal overview; crisis intervention; crime scene investigation; active threat and building searches, and community policing. There also will be a tour of county corrections center.

In addition, participants will be invited to an optional ride-along with sheriff’s deputies. The academy is free and open to area residents.

To participate, residents must be 21 or older; pass a criminal history background check and, to graduate, attend 80 percent of the sessions.

Class size is limited to 20. For more information or to obtain an application, contact Deputy Warren at mwarren@co.lucas .oh.us of call 419-461-7877.
