County engineer seeks continuance for Ten Mile Creek joint petition

In a letter to the joint board of Fulton and Lucas County commissioners on August 6, Lucas County Engineer Mike Pniewski recommended a continuation of the final hearing for the Ten Mile Creek Joint Ditch Petition to March 11, 2025.

The final hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13, where the joint board will reconsider a decision made at the first hearing in 2021, based upon the six-year maintenance plan presented by the Lucas and Fulton County engineers, as well as any testimony provided by the benefitting land owners of the petition.

Pniewski’s office held two informational meetings in Sylvania and Toledo over the past two weeks. Hundreds of community members attended the sessions to learn more about the project and provide feedback on the petition process and the proposed work.

Based on this feedback, the county engineer is asking the joint commissioners for a continuance.

“The meetings for Ten Mile Creek in Sylvania and Toledo went well,” Pniewski said. “But it was also evident that additional time for more public education and outreach on the nature of how our drainage infrastructure works will go a long way toward helping people understand the nature and scope of the project we are proposing and the benefit to the public if it is approved.”

Pniewski said the additional time also will allow for more informational meetings and an educational campaign before the final hearing, as well as a chance to work with communities and stakeholders on the issues and scope of the project.
