New study declares Wood and Lucas in Ohio’s ten most affordable counties

SmartAsset, a personal finance advisory company that publishes data analysis and surveys on the best ways to manage your money, recently released a new study titled “The Most Affordable Places in America.”

Wood County was rated the fifth most affordable county in Ohio, with Lucas not far behind in tenth place.

The company analyzed financial data from all cities with a population of 5,000 or greater, measuring the total cost of owning a home in those areas throughout a fiveyear period. Comparing that cost to median household income allowed the company to estimate affordability.

Each county was then indexed on a scale from 0 to 100.

Wood County comes in with a 44.56 score, while Lucas comes in with a 43.46 score. Columbiana County, home to Salem and East Palestine, ranks the highest in the state with a score of 64.87.

Montgomery, Alabama, is considered the most affordable city in the country under these metrics.
