Sylvania Township police receive traffic safety funds

The Sylvania Township Police Department has been awarded a total of $32,549 from two separate grants through the Ohio Traffic Safety Office.

The first award was a “Selective Traffic Enforcement” grant for $17,024, and will be used to enforce traffic laws with emphasis on speed, seat belt and child restraint violations.

Through implementation of this grant, high visibility enforcement will raise public awareness and address noncompliance.

The second grant of $15,524 was awarded for the “Impaired Driving Enforcement” program.

Impaired driving and other related crashes constitute a threat to the safety and well-being of the public.

Sylvania Township Police will use the funding to reduce deaths, injuries and property damage caused by drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs.

The federal grant period runs through September 30, 2025.
