On September 25, Penta Career Center hosted its 13th Cruise-In car show at the Perrysburg Township campus.
More than 400 classic and vintage vehicles were on display including cars, trucks and motorcycles. Vehicle owners were admitted free with a donation of nonperishable food or hygiene items to be donated to the Penta pantry.
In addition to cars, the cruise-in featured music, food and door prizes such as car care kits, gift certificates and products from several Penta programs and area businesses. Music was provided by Jameson’s Mobile Music and Video.
Tours of the automotive technology and auto collision programs were offered. Students from Family, Career and Community Leaders of America coordinated a “Kids Garage” with activities for younger visitors.
The cruise-in was organized by the transportation programs and SkillsUSA, a leadership organization for career-technical education students.
Awards were presented in several categories. They are Superintendent's Choice–Bob Peinert of Bowling Green, 1972 Gremlin X; Best Motorcycle–Jeff Detmer of Perrysburg, 1963 Silver Eagle Cushman, and Alumni Award–John Spilker of Waterville and Penta Class of 1982 auto body, 1932 Ford Roadster.
Superintendent Ed Ewers noted the students did an excellent job organizing the event and commended them for collecting several hundred food nonperishable food and hygiene products. The event also included raffles and auction items. The automotive program collected $475 from the raffles for the Penta Pantry, and $739 for the Chris Neff Tool Scholarship from donations and raffles.
