After several years and millions of dollars, the widening project of I-475 two to three lanes from Sylvania to the Maumee River bridge is nearing completion.
During the transition, motorists can expect lane restrictions and delays.
I-475, between Airport Highway and U.S. Route 24, Maumee, will have lane restrictions for widening and construction of a new interchange at U.S. Route 20A through December 2024.
Southbound I-475 will be relocated to the permanent alignment beginning Saturday, November 23. As a result, all southbound I-475 ramps will experience closures during the traffic switch.
In addition, I-475 south, between Airport and Route 24 will be reduced to one lane from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.
Short-term ramp closures lasting up to one hour each for tie-ins and striping begin at 6 a.m. Saturday.
Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes to avoid delays this weekend.
A general estimate of ramp closures sequence and timing follows:
•Route 24 ramps, 6 to 9 a.m.;
•Dussel/Salisbury ramps, 8 to 11 a.m.;
•Airport Highway ramps, noon to 4 p.m.
Southbound I-475 will open to two lanes in the original and permanent alignment.
The third lane southbound will open to traffic between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The third northbound lane is anticipated to open by Christmas, weather permitting.
The timeline for opening the new diverging diamond interchange at Route 20A remains weather dependent.
Some work remains ongoing along Route 24 between Monclova Road and Detroit Avenue, Maumee.
Route 24 is in need of final striping in some locations, and additional finish work will be performed under temporary lane restrictions.
