The Toledo/Lucas County 20th Annual National Project Linus Blanket Day will be held on February 15, at Living Faith United Methodist Church, 1240 Columbus Drive, Holland.
The mission of Project Linus is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade, washable blankets and afghans, lovingly crafted by blanketeers.
Blankets for children in need will be assembled at the church, and community members are invited to participate.
Anyone who can learn to tie a square knot is invited to join in the fun anytime between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Community involvement is vital to the success of this event, and it is hoped that as many people as possible will volunteer to help.
Last year, 15 volunteer blanketeers made 30 blankets. This year’s goal is 25 blanketeers to make 50 or more blankets.
The Toledo/Lucas County Project Linus was formed in 2005. The volunteer organization has delivered more than 19,000 handmade blankets to Toledo Hospital, Lucas County Children Service, Family House and homeless shelters.
