Springfield Middle School’s Power of the Pen team delivered an outstanding performance at the district qualifier this past weekend, earning recognition for both individual and team achievements. While official scoring totals are still pending, preliminary results confirm that eighth graders Elliot Rainey and Alice Rainey secured spots in the regional competition after placing in the Top 10 overall.
As a team, Springfield finished an impressive fourth place out of 18 competing schools, a testament to the dedication and talent of the student writers. Coaches Mallory Holliday and Shoupra Shikwana remain hopeful that additional team members will receive regional invitations.
This year’s team includes seventh graders Emily Meyer and Zoie Yates, along with eighth graders Amelia Kidd, Nevaeh Villareal, Olivia Ames, Alice Rainey, Elliot Rainey and Hope Arasa.
The regional competition is set to take place in Lima on Saturday, March 8.
“We are so proud of our writers for their consistent hard work and effort this season,” said Middle School Principal Jeff Pendry.
Co-coach Shikwana added, “We are excited to continue competing against other middle schoolers in the area.”
Congratulations to the team on this achievement, and best of luck at regionals.
