Lisa Hawker has been named the recipient of the YMCA Volunteer of the Year Award, a distinguished honor that celebrates individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the Y’s mission and community impact.
For more than 26 years, Hawker has been an advocate and leader, exemplifying the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. As current board chair, her visionary leadership has been instrumental in advancing the Y’s mission, particularly during a historic milestone— the YMCA’s 160th anniversary.
“Lisa Hawker embodies the heart of the YMCA,” said Brad Toft, president/ CEO of the YMCA of Greater Toledo. “Her service is more than a contribution—it’s a legacy. Lisa has helped shape a more inclusive, sustainable and impactful YMCA for today and for generations to come.”
Over the years, Hawker has held nearly every leadership position within the organization’s governance structure. Most recently, she spearheaded a governance restructure, ensuring the Y is positioned for longterm sustainability and adaptability in a changing world.
Hawker’s connection to the YMCA is personal—her children were raised in Y programs, and her passion for the Y’s mission is rooted in lived experience. She’s a vocal ambassador, community connector and tireless volunteer who never misses an opportunity to advocate for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Whether rallying community support, mentoring leaders or attending local events, Hawker leads by example. She has inspired others to engage with the Y’s mission and expand its reach across the region.
This recognition is a testament to her dedication to strengthening community— one relationship, one initiative and one story at a time.
