SHS Business Professionals of America Club hosts westernthemed Special Needs Carnival

The field house at Springfield High School transformed into a heartwarming celebration of joy, community and inclusion on the morning of May 8, as the Business Professionals of America (BPA) hosted a Special Needs Carnival for students across the Springfield Local School District.

With a festive western theme, the carnival welcomed students from the district’s elementary, middle and high schools from 9 to 11 a.m., creating a vibrant and inclusive space filled with games, music and fun. From ring tosses to rodeo-style décor, colorful signage to engaging booths, the event delivered smiles and unforgettable moments for all who attended.

A dedicated team of 12 BPA members took the lead in planning and executing the event, designing signs, setting up games and coordinating activities. Their creativity and commitment were evident in every detail, from the cowboy hats and hay bales to the carnival prizes and festive décor. Behind the scenes, BPA advisors, Mrs. Bonita Adams and Mrs. Barbara Pitsinger, provided invaluable guidance and support, ensuring the event’s success.

A generous $500 sponsorship from Chick-fil-A Holland, coordinated through Justin Amgurdy, helped fund toys, games and prizes, adding a layer of excitement and reward for participating students. Refreshments and snacks also were in abundance, providing sweet and savory treats that kept the energy high throughout the morning.

“This was a truly beautiful moment for our district,” said one Springfield staff member in attendance. “You could see the joy on every face, and the BPA students went above and beyond to make everyone feel celebrated.”

The Special Needs Carnival was more than just a morning of fun—it was a testament to the power of student leadership, community partnership and the value of creating inclusive experiences that bring all learners together.

Springfield Local Schools extends a heartfelt thank you to the BPA club members, their advisors and Chick-fil-A Holland for supporting this cherished event.
