On October 14, Springfield High School’s STEP (Student Transitional Employment Program) class, taught by Jenni King, welcomed a special guest speaker—Justin Amburgey, operator and franchise owner of Chick-fil-A Holland, on Airport Highway.
Amburgey shared an inspiring and insightful presentation about leadership, career growth and what it takes to operate a successful business. Speaking candidly to students, he discussed his own journey—from initially planning to pursue a career in medicine to discovering his true calling in business management and entrepreneurship through Chick-fil-A’s franchise model.
“Success doesn’t come overnight,” Amburgey told the students. “It’s built through consistency, humility and a willingness to learn.”
The STEP program provides high school students with valuable opportunities to gain real-world work experience while completing their education. Each morning, students participate in classroom instruction focused on employability and life skills before leaving mid-morning to work at various job sites across the community. The program is designed to help students build confidence, develop leadership and prepare for life beyond graduation through hands-on experience and strong community partnerships.
King expressed her gratitude for the visit, noting how impactful it is for students to hear directly from local business leaders: “Our goal is to help students see the connection between their education and their future,” said King. “When someone like Mr. Amburgey takes the time to share his story, it makes that connection real.”
In true Chick-fil-A spirit, Amburgey also brought breakfast for the class—a gesture that reflected the company’s culture of generosity and hospitality.
Springfield Local Schools extends appreciation to Amburgey and Chick-fil-A Holland for their continued support of Springfield students and for investing time and care into the next generation of leaders.
