Volunteers help renovate women’s shelter

Lowe’s red vest associates from the northwest Ohio region donated their time on October 20, to help support Cherry Street Mission as a part of Lowe’s commitment to delivering 10 million square feet of impact this year. The Sparrow’s Nest has been selected as a Lowe’s Hometowns project, one of only 100 communitynominated, large-scale renovations that will revitalize nonprofit and community spaces serving as hubs and heartbeats for hometowns. Lowe’s Hometowns is the company’s five-year, $100 million commitment to renovate and rebuild community spaces nationwide.

The renovation at Cherry Street Mission’s women’s residential shelter, the Sparrow’s Nest, will breathe new life into a space that serves as a haven for women experiencing homelessness. Volunteers refreshed the lobby, day room and residential areas with fresh paint and updated furnishings—creating a warm, dignified and welcoming environment for guests on their journey toward stability. The $70,000 grant also supports critical building updates including new flooring, lighting, ceiling and window fixtures. Restoring this physical home is a reflection of Cherry Street’s mission to help women restore their own lives—providing not just shelter, but the opportunity for renewal, hope and community.

In addition to supporting the 100 grant-funded projects, Lowe’s associates will complete more than 1,700 community revitalization projects as a part of Lowe’s Hometowns. Each project will be measured as part of its 10 million-square-foot goal.
