21st annual Veterans Appreciation Breakfast and Resource Fair set for November 11

The Lucas County Veterans Service Commission announces the 21st annual Veterans Appreciation Breakfast and Resource Fair will be held on Tuesday, November 11, from 8 to 11 a.m., in Savage Arena at the University of Toledo. Parking is free.

Through the collaborative efforts of the American Red Cross, the University of Toledo and the Lucas County Veterans Service Commission, this breakfast and resource fair gives the community an opportunity to honor area veterans and those currently serving, for the sacrifices they have made for our country. Along with a free breakfast, the event also offers attendees access to more than 35 military- focused community resources.

The program will include some younger members of the community who will pay tribute to the veterans with entertainment and support. Members of the Rossford High School S.O.S. (Serving Our Soldiers) Club will be greeting participants and assisting veterans through the breakfast line. Musical entertainment will be provided by the fourth grade students from Waterville Primary School and by local DJ Jeff Mentel, who will provide background music.

“This event is all about honoring our local heroes. We are grateful for the involvement of students from the area schools to help us in this effort,” said Peggy Holewinski, regional gift officer of the American Red Cross, Western Lake Erie. According to David Oravecz, executive director of the Lucas County Veterans Service Commission, “Freedom is not free. It requires service and sacrifice from so many of the members of our community. This event is all about celebrating the brave men and women who answered the call to military service.”

Local television personality Dan Cummins (from WTOL News) will be master of ceremonies. Guest speaker will be Captain Joshua Gillium, U.S. Army Recruiting Company Commander. Captain Gillium has held leadership positions as a non-commissioned and commissioned officer in the U.S. Army during his career.

This free breakfast and resource fair is open to all local veterans and service members of the active and reserve components of the U.S. military. Their family members are welcome to attend as well.
