The Toledo Museum of Art’s reinstallation project will reach a new phase on December 15. On that date, the following galleries will close until their grand re-opening in 2027.
•The Great Gallery
•Galleries 22-27 featuring Dutch and French Baroque and Rococo paintings and sculptures •Galleries 32-33 featuring European art
•Gallery 34 featuring selections from our jewelry collection All artwork in these galleries, including visitor favorites such as “The Architect’s Dream” by Thomas Cole, “Blind Man’s Buff” by Jean-Honoré Fragonard and “The Crowning of Saint Catherine” by Peter Paul Rubens, will go off view during construction.
The project represents the first comprehensive gallery reinstallation in more than 40 years. This project preserves the museum’s historic spaces while reimagining the visitor experience, broadening the story that galleries tell and ensuring the museum continues to be a source of inspiration for generations.
The redesigned galleries will feature fresh updates to showcase the variety and quality of TMA’s collection, including innovative uses of technology. These enhancements, along with essential facility upgrades such as upgraded heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and restrooms, will elevate the visitor experience.
The museum will not be closed in its entirety. The following areas will remain open during this phase of construction: •The Glass Pavilion
•Classic Court, Wolfe Gallery, and Galleries 1, 4, 6, 7, 15, 16, 18, 19, 35
•TMA Café, TMA Store, and Library
•The Family Center and Education Wing
•All entrances, elevators, and restrooms
•Daily glassblowing demonstrations Favorites, including El Greco’s “The Agony in the Garden” and Anselm Kiefer’s “Athanor,” will be available for visitors to enjoy.
