Adopt America Network announces upcoming retirement of President Wendy Spoerl

Adopt America Network (AAN) reports that President Wendy Spoerl will be retiring after 25 years of dedicated service to children, families and the mission of permanency through adoption.

Spoerl’s decision follows more than two and a half years of thoughtful succession planning jointly led by her and the AAN board of directors. This long-term approach ensures stability, continuity and the ongoing strength of AAN’s programs as the organization prepares for its next chapter.

There is currently no set timeline for her departure. She will remain fully engaged throughout the search for the next president and will support the onboarding process to ensure a smooth transition.

“Wendy has led Adopt America Network with compassion, integrity and extraordinary commitment,” said Mike Hanson, board chair. “Because of her leadership and the strength of our entire team, the future of AAN is bright. This transition is grounded in strategy, stability and optimism.”

Spoerl emphasized that the organization’s success has always been a collective effort. “AAN’s impact is the result of our incredible team, our partners and the families we serve,” said Spoerl. “I am committed to ensuring the next president steps into a strong, supported and mission- driven environment.”

AAN will share additional updates in the coming months as the search process advances. Vice Chair Amy Tyson will chair the national search committee.
