To close out the 2021-22 school year, the Springfield board of education acted on several financial matters.

For 2022-23, the board approved the treasurer’s request to seek property tax advances as they are received by the Lucas County auditor.
Additionally, they renewed property, fleet, liability and excess crime insurance with the Ohio School Plan for $143,416.
The board changed cyber insurance carriers since the previous carrier dropped out of the insurance market. “We have the option of picking up additional cyber coverage or remain with the limited Ohio School plan coverage,” Treasurer Ryan Lockwood said.
The board elected to pick up the additional coverage at a price not to exceed $23,000.
The district received one quote for $22,995 and is awaiting two other quotes.
Given the cyber attacks that occurred at Toledo Public and Washington Local school districts, the board believes the coverage is “very necessary,” Mr. Lockwood said.
Personnel
Several personnel issues were addressed by the school board.
They accepted resignations from Kimberly Bryson, effective August 12 and Matthew Bentlage, informational technology specialist, July 1.
A number of contracts were awarded to certified staff. One-year contracts were approved for Jenna Ames, Crissey autism intervention specialist; Samantha Bell, STEAM teacher; Rachel Gilmore, SHS English language arts; Jenna Kocsis and Craig Waltos, Holloway third grade; Linda Mohr and Carrie Pratt, SEL coaches.
Granted three-year contracts were Oatis Amick, Crissey principal; Jerry Bell, student services and career tech coordinator; Cory Cantu, director of technology; Dana Falkenberg, assistant superintendent; Dustin Hamilton, director of maintenance and custodial; Taryn Miley, director of curriculum, instruction and assessment; Jeffrey Pendry, middle school principal; Nelle Ratliff, Holloway principal; Kevin Rupp, high school assistant principal, and Andrew Ward, middle school assistant principal.
A continuing contract also was awarded to Jennifer Hoel, SHS math.
Other Business
In other business, the school board:
•Received an update from Superintendent Matt Geha on state legislation allowing teachers to carry guns.
•Entered into an agreement with Green Options for Autism of Lucas County at a cost of $175 per day.
•Approved 10 additional days during the summer for the athletic director.
The next board of education meeting will be at 9 a.m., Tuesday, July 12 at the administration building, 6900 Hall Street, and is open to the public.
