This year in music class, students have an opportunity to learn about different musicians throughout the school year as part of a yearlong unit called “Artist of the Month.” February’s artist of the month was Stevie Wonder. Stevie Wonder is an American singer-songwriter, musician and record producer. Following are some interesting facts about Stevie Wonder.

•Born May 13, 1950, in Saginaw, Michigan.

•He learned to play the harmonica, piano and drums by age 9.

•The family moved to Detroit when Stevie was 4.

•Stevie Wonder sang in his church choir and became a soloist at age 8.

•Motown Records gave him a recording contract when he was 12.

•He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with sales of more than 100 million records worldwide.

•He has won 25 Grammy Awards.

•He has been inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame.

•In 2014, he was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

•Stevie Wonder has written songs for other artists, including Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey I would like to thank our music teacher, Ms. Middleton, for giving our students an opportunity to learn about different musicians and genres of music.
