As road improvement projects continue on Hamilton and Holloway roads, so too, do the issues.
At the June 15 meeting, Holland Mayor Lee Irons told village council that a change order may be needed for work on Holloway Road.
Of the 34 businesses on Holloway, two have semi trucks entering their sites on a regular basis, which poses a problem when concrete is poured due to the length of time it takes to dry.
At the entrances to Yoder Machinery and Doyle Manufacturing, the mayor is recommending the use of a concrete additive to speed the curing process time.
He said it will add $1,600 to the cost of the project which amounts to “one-half of 1 percent of the total project cost. I think it’s money well spent.”
The mayor noted that the engineer needs council’s approval to proceed with the additional expense.
“In general, the project is coming along very, very well,” Mayor Irons added.
Public Hearing
Council approved a variance request from the owners of 7102 Kipling Drive, who requested a reduction in the setback requirements for the north property line.
They sought to reduce it from 10 feet to four feet for construction of an above ground pool.
Councilman Mike Bettinger said he reviewed the plans and is in favor of the request since the pool would be considered a temporary structure.
