New fire levies proposed

A study of a potential joint fire district for Waterville and Whitehouse is prompting Rossford fire officials to question that direction for their own department.

“We had heard that by consolidating, it’s supposed to be cheaper and improve services,” Rossford Fire Chief Josh Drouard said.

“But if you’re looking to do a quick bandage for staffing, this isn’t it.”

Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Stautzenbach gave a presentation on Monday evening to Rossford City Council after he attended an open forum April 3 that discussed the Waterville-Whitehouse merger.

The study was completed by the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association, at a cost of $20,000, and took more than a year to complete.
