Penta board of education names new treasurer

The Penta Career Center board of education has appointed a new treasurer to replace Carrie Herringshaw, who will be stepping down after 33 years.

Following a brief executive session at the December 14 meeting, the school board named Michael Harrigan as its next treasurer.

A Penta employee since 2007, Mr. Harrigan began his career as a math instructor, followed by careerbased intervention instructor, assistant supervisor and is currently the assistant director of pupil personnel.

He will serve as deputy treasurer from March 1 through July 31, 2023, at an annual salary of $116,000. During that time, he will be reimbursed for up to nine semester hours of college coursework required to obtain a treasurer’s license through the Ohio Department of Education and the cost to apply for and receive the license, explained Judy Sander, board president.

Mr. Harrigan will begin his tenure as treasurer August 1, at which time his salary will be adjusted to $125,000 annually.

“Penta Career Center is fortunate to have found its next treasurer by selecting someone who has in-depth knowledge of the district and believes in and supports the district’s mission,” Ms. Sander said.

Superintendent Ed Ewers agreed, noting the district had interviewed 11 external candidates, but none quite met what Penta was seeking.

During the transition, the board modified the contract with Ms. Herringshaw. Effective August 1, she will become fiscal advisor, assisting Mr. Harrigan with activities of the office including preparation of appropriations, documentation for GAAO reporting, the five-year forecast and other issues related to the responsibilities of the treasurer’s office.
