Springfield Middle School News

There are so many great things happening at Springfield Middle School. I’d like to bring attention to the efforts of our student musicians. Collectively, their holiday concerts were beyond impressive and in mid-January, four individual students represented the school at the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) District 1 Middle School Honors Band and Choir Festival. Special thanks to Mrs. Golick for helping me prepare this information.

Three SMS choir students and one band student were selected to participate in the OMEA festival. They stood out from hundreds of their peers from area districts, including Anthony Wayne, Bowling Green, Maumee, Perrysburg and Sylvania. Their ensembles met for a Wednesday (band) or Thursday (choir) night rehearsal, worked hard all day on Saturday and culminated their efforts in a performance at the Stranahan Theatre on January 22.

Congratulations to SMS band student Reed Schwieterman, eighth grade, and choir students Serenity Gregory, eighth grade; Adria Spears, seventh grade, and Amelia Werner, eighth grade.

The District 1 Middle School Honors Band was under the direction of Brandon DuVall from Orange City Schools and the choir was under the direction of Carolyn Gross from Grosse Pointe Public Schools System.

Our students put on a fantastic performance and we are proud to have them represent our school. Keep up the hard work.
