Important Partnerships
Springfield Local Schools is fortunate to have many partnerships which truly benefit our students. Recently, area leaders came together to kickoff the new school year and continue to explore strategies, programs and ideas to foster an environment in the area that promotes a prevention and reduction of substance abuse and substance abuse-related problems. The Springfield Area Prevention Coalition (SAPC) is designed to host parent and student trainings, collect youth survey data, and generate awareness for all community members about the importance of a preventative approach. Members of the coalition include those employed in law enforcement, health fields, pharmacies, schools, government agencies and mental wellness.
Springfield Middle School is proud to continue recruiting and placing students on the committee. Like in past years, SAPC and SMS targeted seventh graders in the recruitment process—an ideal age when many students begin to deal with the pressure of trying new things that can have adverse effects.
We are proud to participate in the SAPC leadership team. I join SMS students Drew Bensman, Kailye DeMoss and Reed Schwieterman as board members, as well as students from Springfield High school and the district’s director of federal programs Paulette Baz and community liaison Kristina White. Together, we provide reflection from the important student/school district perspective as SAPC begins developing programs for the upcoming school year.
