Trustees approve purchase of turnout gear, review monthly departmental report

At the October 23 meeting, the Springfield Township trustees approved the purchase of turnout gear for the fire department. Assistant Chief Dave Moore explained that the fire/EMS department implemented a replacement program several years ago, replacing a portion of the turnout gear each year to avoid a costly, departmentwide exchange all at once.

The Village of Holland, and Springfield Township have set Trick or Treat for Tuesday, October 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Springfield Township Fire Department has issued Halloween safety tips for trick or treaters.

Holland prepares for holiday season with new tree

A new pine tree has been planted at Holland’s Strawberry Acres Park just in time for the annual village Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The tree, a Norway spruce, replaces a fraser fir donated by Walker Funeral Home two years ago.

Name‐a‐Snowplow contest returns in October

The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission is holding its third annual Name-a-Snowplow contest which began Monday, October 16. The contest rules are: •The name submission period runs from October 16 to November 15.

Volunteers clean up area streams

Partners for Clean Streams and community partners hosted the 27th annual Clean Your Streams Day on September 30. For the fourth year, volunteers also had the option to participate in a remote kickoff, cleaning a waterway site at a time and location of their choosing.
