The high school experience is never complete without being involved in various activities. That is one thing that always separates us from the lower levels, students really begin to find themselves. I love all the different activities that our kids can be involved in and the way they find a group of people to gel with. You never know whether it’s going to be athletics or activities, but we really do some amazing things around here. So many different clubs and other sponsored events give kids rich, diverse access to so many fun things to consider for the future. Yes, we have Esports to basketball, the band to drama club to knit lit and so many more. This year, our JROTC program is on a quest to place at nationals and represent our community in competition.

Whitehouse, area Metropark plan eclipse event

Whitehouse Village Hall and Blue Creek Metropark invite residents and visitors to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the unique experience on Monday, April 8. Viewing is available at Village Hall, 6925 Providence Street and Blue Creek Metropark, 7035 Providence Street.

Central Catholic posts honor roll

Ohio Turnpike to launch new toll collection system

The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission’s new toll collection system is nearing the final stages of completion. The switch to the new system–which began last year–will be phased in gradually over the next several weeks.

Museum to open April 4

The Holland Springfield Spencer Historical Society will open the museum, now known as the Lee Irons History Center, on Thursday, April 4, at 7154 Front Street, Holland. The center will be open every Thursday from 10 a.m.

Police officers recognized by council

Several Holland police officers received recognition for their service to the village and community. At the March 19 meeting, Interim Police Chief Jim Piotrowski presented certificates to Officer Alexander Tonjes and Sergeant Ed Marckel and Sergeant Joe Bodnar.

Trustees approve 2024 budget

At the March 19 meeting, the Springfield Township trustees approved permanent appropriations for 2024. Under Ohio law, jurisdictions are required to submit a budget by April 1.

Springfield Middle School News

On Friday, March 15, students from Springfield Middle School traveled to the University of Toledo to participate in the Women in Engineering event hosted by the university. Thirteen students were greeted at the front door by Dr. Maria Coleman, the chair of the UT Chemical Engineering Department, who also is a Springfield parent.

Lourdes to host annual student art exhibition

Lourdes University will host its annual student art exhibition March 23 to April 10. The exhibition will showcase the artistic talents of Lourdes University students at the Canticle Center Art Gallery, 5335 Silica Drive, Sylvania.
