Several Springfield Local Schools student-athletes were recognized recently.
Courtnee Chappetta and Jordan Bombick were awarded the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award.
Named for Archie Griffin–a two-time Heisman Trophy winner from Ohio State University–the award is given to one middle school male and one middle school female athlete from each school in the OHSAA and is the highest honor an athlete can achieve for their efforts to promote sportsmanship.
The OHSAA Courageous Student award was presented to Tori Wurzelbacher. It is given to a student involved in interscholastic athletics and displays courage.
The National Federation of High School Award of Excellence was given to Taylor Bombick and Reese Shull for displaying exemplary sportsmanship, ethics and integrity.
Springfield Schools also named their athletes of the year–Mia Rose for the girls and Trevor Tabb for the boys.
