Although administrative personnel is under roof at the Ev Harris Administration and Educational Complex, construction change orders are still being approved.
At the September 13 meeting, the school board authorized a number of change orders for the 6924 Spring Valley project.
They are emergency lighting changes, fire, electrical, $5,820; fire protection changes, masonry repairs, $37,343; additional casework, exterior lettering, $9,265; additional site demolition, additional electrical, $5,811; additional painting, concrete, elevator work, data rack, $15,788; remove disconnect switch deduction, $200; additional fire code requirements, $3,409; boardroom drywall, furring, re-work, $68,292; roof repair, $19,467; boardroom lighting, $922; additional plumbing/ electrical, $17,865; cedar facade repair, $6,650; electrical changes deduction, $500; remove vinyl flooring, deduction, $4,625.
Personnel
A number of personnel matters were addressed at the meeting.
The board awarded contracts to: one year–Hoda Jarouche, Holland interventionist, and two year–Tayler Redinger, director of community relations, effective September 18.
Classified contracts were approved for: one year– Gwen Bowers, 7 hours SHS food service; Ashley Cloer, 4 hour SHS food service; Brandon Edwards, Holloway recess monitor; Odessa Lynch, 4 hour SHS food service; Deborah Messer, Crissey recess monitor, and Lisa Rodriguez, 4 hour SMS food service.
A change in assignment was granted for Marisa Dutridge, from 4 hour Dorr to Holloway night custodian.
The board of education also awarded interpreter/ translator contracts for 2023-24 to Mariam Al-Abed, Nada Salem and Leila Smidi.
A leave of absence was granted to Amy Fleming, for 13 weeks returning in January 2024, and Cynthia Hall, through September 15.
Pupil activity permit contracts were awarded to Art Battle, SMS seventh grade girls basketball coach; Crystal Ellis, SHS soccer JV assistant coach; Brian Foos, SHS soccer JV assistant coach; Tyler Haughawout, SHS boys volleyball head coach; Kristin Schnerer, SHS football cocoordinator; Jacob Sloan, SHS volunteer soccer coach, and David Whitmire, interim SHS JV boys golf assistant coach.
The board also accepted resignations from Amy Anderson, Crissey recess monitor, effective September 13; Anthony Scott, SHS boys volleyball head coach, August 29; Elizabet Silva, Crissey lunchroom monitor and substitute bus aide, September 4, and Kathy Zeitler, substitute teacher, August 27.
Stipends for 2023-24 were approved for Barb Eckhart, RESA coordinator; Nikki Medjesky, RESA coordinator; Tayler Redinger, director of community relations, per diem until September 18, and Carrie Wcislek, freshman mentor coordinator.

In other business, the school board:
•Approved the purchase of a Sopris operating system for $6,797.
•Contracted with Bill Geha to serve as prevention and intervention coordinator in 2023-24 for $25,000.
•Authorized service agreements with A & G Education Services, LLC, for LEAP and SOAR at a cost of $72,800.
•Accepted a Title I letter of understanding with Toledo Public Schools for students requiring math and reading services and coordinating their transportation to receive those services.
•Passed revisions to 13 school policies to reflect changes in wording or legal updates. The policies are nondiscrimination and equal employment opportunity; prohibition against disability discrimination in employment; anti-harassment; prohibition against discrimination based on disability, and nondiscrimination on the basis of sex in education programs or activities.
•Updated the director of community relations salary range to $64,417 to $77,679.
•Approved five requests to attend professional development meetings.
