Lucas County Canine Care and Control is waiving impound fees for any dog taken in through July 6 and reclaimed during those same dates wearing a 2024 dog license.
Animal shelters across the country see an influx of stray dogs in the days surrounding the Fourth of July holiday each year, often because pets run away after being startled or scared by fireworks.
The LC4 initiative, dubbed Fido Freedom Days, is an effort to return as many dogs as possible to their homes.
If a reclaimed dog does not have a current dog license, the owner can purchase a license, and LC4 will waive the remaining impounding fees.
A county dog license costs $25 and is good through the end of 2024.
If your dog goes missing, call LC4 at 419-213-2800, visit lucascountydogs.com/ lost-found, or the shelter at 410 South Erie Street, Toledo, Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
