My dad, now here is a man: Howard F. Sommers was born to William C. and Louise (Koch) Sommers on May 6, 1919. He was received into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, February 27, 2021.
Carol A. Harris, age 73, of Toledo’s Point Place community, passed away February 4, 2021, at her home. She was born May 28, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, to Melvin and Louise (Kurzeja) Pakulski.
Wally Fenneken, of Point Place, died December 29, 2020, at the Ebeid Hospice Center of Flower Hospital. He was 74 years old. Wally was born in Toledo on September 29, 1946, to Charles Edward and Alice Mae Fenneken. He attended Nathan Hale Elementary School and DeVilbiss High School, where he played cornet in the marching and concert bands. Wally graduated from the University of Toledo in 1969 with a B.B.A. majoring in logistics. At the university, he participated in the Reserve Officer Training Corps, which led to joining the U.S. Army Reserves. Wally was a Phi Kappa Psi alumni.
Alice was born in Trail Run, Ohio, just outside of Cambridge, to Emma and Everett Horton, in 1931. She was the youngest of three children, with her sister, Dortha and brother, Albert. The family moved to Toledo, Ohio, in 1941, when Everett got a job working at Libbey Glass. She attended Stickney Elementary and Woodward High School, graduating in 1949. In 1951 she married Jack Kesling. They moved to northern Michigan on Black Lake in 1957 for seven years, where their first child, Todd, was born in 1961. Upon moving back to the Point Place-Shoreland area in 1964, they had a set of twins, David and Donna. They settled in the Shoreland area, where Alice proceeded to begin a very successful cake decorating business. She was known as “The Cake Lady” to her many friends and customers. After health issues forced her retirement, she and Jack traveled with their friends in the Zenobia Shrine all throughout the United States.
Kenneth P. Kay, age 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 28, 2020, in Erie, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 23, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Joseph Kay and Verna (Aldrich) Kay.
