VALERIE “JAN” BANDLING
Valerie “Jan” Bandling (Lavin), passed away on April 22, 2019, at the age of 73, in Port St. Lucie, Florida, after battling a courageous fight with breast cancer. Valerie was born on September 3, 1945, in Canton, Ohio, to Valentine and Gwendolyn Lavin (Thomas). She graduated from Glenwood High School and went on to Ohio State University, where she would forever proudly call herself a Buckeye. Jan went on to win the Miss Ohio Pageant in 1965.
After college, she lived in Perrysburg, Ohio, where she started her family with daughters Katie and Jenny.
In 1985, she married Lars Bandling, a former Swedish Air Force test pilot and together they traveled to many wonderful places, including Europe and South America, as well as living in Sweden for several years.
Jan lit up a room with her beautiful smile. She had a wicked sense of humor and a fierce will!
She will be missed greatly by her beloved husband, Lars, who adoringly cared for her, her service dog Cody and her daughters, Kathryn (Burns) and Jennifer (Baldner). She also is survived by grandchildren Zachary, Owen, Alexandra, Gwyneth and Juliet, along with her brother Dean Lavin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Val and Gwen Lavin.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 18, between 4 and 7 p.m., at 2330 Woods Edge, Perrysburg.
