Mayor Kapszukiewicz uses emergency powers

At the March 18 Toledo City Council meeting, Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz announced that a state of emergency exists in the city because of the COVID-19, or coronavirus, outbreak, allowing him to exercise emergency powers for $70,000 toward information technology equipment for city government employees to work remotely.

The city charter outlines powers the mayor can exercise in a state of emergency. Among these powers are the ability to impose a curfew, to order a quarantine as needed, to procure items necessary for the safety and welfare of the residents, and to grant or waive certain permits as necessary.
