After much debate and 17 entries submitted, Lady Huckyʼs name has been chosen.
“The committee was stuck on two names–Hucky Bella and Huckleberry Rose,” explained Terri Hoag, owner of the local groundhog who annually issues a February 3 weather prediction. “After a lengthy discussion, it was decided to combine the names, and they came up with Hucky Bella Rose.”
The two naming contest winners are Kevin Bush for Hucky Bella and Desiree Eaton for Huckleberry Rose.
Above is Hucky Bella Rose enjoying one of her favorite foods–sweet corn from Sadowskiʼs in Swanton.
“I only get it twice a day, which is not nearly enough. My favorite treat is potato chips, but I only get one each a day,” Bella Rose said, adding, she believes her human parents forgot the potato chip slogan, “You canʼt eat just one.”
Her other favorite meals are broccoli, lettuce, green beans, green peppers, tomatoes, cherries and strawberries. For snacks, she munches on goldfish crackers, cheese crackers, yogurt treats and dried fruit.
When Charlie and Terri Hoag of Springfield Township brought their newest weather prognosticator home 10 weeks ago, she weighed 15 ounces. She now weighs close to 5 pounds.
Bella Rose knows she has “really big paws to fill,” but is up to the challenge and looks forward to seeing her friends on Groundhog Day 2022.
