Betty J. Sampsel, 92, of Toledo, passed away September 22, 2023. She was born April 28, 1931, to George and Mildred (Nulf) Shoemaker in Toledo. On July 5, 1952, she married Clarence Zwolinski. They moved from Toledo, to Goetzville, Michigan, until they moved to Rogers City, where she worked as a secretary at several local businesses.

Michael Joseph Nowowiejski was born September 24, 1946, and passed away on September 14, 2023, at age 76, from a short, wellfought battle with cancer. He exited this world from his home in Holland, where he lived his entire life, and now is present with his Lord Jesus in the heavenly places.

LT. COLONEL DONALD S. HOUK

“It’s been quite a flight” Ohio native Lt. Colonel Donald S. Houk passed away in Webster, Texas, on June 14, 2023. Born in Akron in 1936, he grew up in Holland (near Toledo) and graduated from Holland High School. Destined for an aviation related career, he joined the Ohio Air National Guard 180th Combat Support Squadron at Toledo Express Airport in 1958. After completing officers candidate school in April 1966, he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the Ohio ANG and assigned to 180th Material Squadron as fuel supply officer. Subsequent positions included administrative officer, ground safety officer and group ground training officer. He retired from the OHANG in 1991 after 33 years of service, including 11 months of active duty.

Mabel Ann Spangler, 96, of Holland, passed away at her home peacefully on September 14, 2022, in the company of her loving family. She was born in Toledo, on December 4, 1925, to her parents, Fred and Leah (Walters) Marshall, where she grew up alongside her 13 siblings.

Mabel Ann Spangler, 96, of Holland, passed away at her home peacefully on September 14, 2022, in the company of her loving family. She was born in Toledo, on December 4, 1925, to her late parents, Fred and Leah (Walters) Marshall, where she grew up alongside her 13 siblings.

Virginia Martishius of Toledo, Ohio, died peacefully of natural causes at home February 17, 2022. Virginia, born September 14, 1936, the daughter of Mary and Stanley Strzechowski, and grew up in Chicago, Illinois, with her brothers and sister, Stanley (Eileen) (both deceased), Dorothy (Brodmerkel (deceased), Larry (Sandy), and Jim (Joanne).

Janice E. Sell, age 79, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. She was born on May 16, 1941, to the late Guy and Edna (Ebert) Mayberry of Holland, Ohio. On October 9, 1965, she married Carl Sell, preceding her in death in 2019.
