Summertime is for outdoor fun, play and picnics and, because of funding from one local business, disabled campers at Courageous Community Services will enjoy all three this summer in a new playhouse created just for them.
Karen and Mike Langenderfer of the Countertop Shop provided a donation that benefits two non-profit organizations, Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity and Courageous Community Services.
A playhouse was constructed at Courageous Acres, the non-profit organization’s summer camp for children, teenagers and adults with disabilities.
Located near Oak Openings Preserve Metropark, it is the only organization in the northwest Ohio region to provide comprehensive outdoor recreation experiences for people with disabilities.
“This generous donation from the Langenderfers provides Courageous Community Services with a playhouse that will become our snack shack at camp for children and adults of all ages to enjoy a healthy snack while participating in our summer camp program,” said Laura Kuhlenbeck, CCS executive director.
“This new feature ensures our summer camp participants continue to have an enjoyable experience at Courageous Acres.”
Led by builders at Maumee Valley Habitat For Humanity, a dozen volunteers donated their time and skills to complete the playhouse at the camp, 12701 Waterville Swanton Road, Whitehouse.
“Not only are Mike and Karen supporting our community with their generous funds, but they are also giving of their time and talents with coming out to help build the playhouse, Ms. Kuhlenbeck said, adding, “Their donation and time benefit the campers of Courageous Acres as well as families throughout Lucas County in need of shelter via the work of Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity.”
