Barb Dietze seeks re-election as Springfield Twp. fiscal officer

Barb Dietze is seeking to be re-elected as the fiscal officer for Springfield Township.

“When I was appointed to the position of Springfield Township fiscal officer 10 years ago, the township books had not been reconciled in several years, money was missing, and the discrepancies were only uncovered during a routine biennial audit,” she recalled.

“As a resident of the township, I was upset that my property tax dollars were not being properly managed. This also confirmed my belief that the position of fiscal officer requires the office holder to have a solid knowledge of proper bookkeeping and recordkeeping.”

As an accountant, she said her first duty was to establish systems to ensure that no one had unauthorized access to township monies.

“I also set up new methods to verify that all transactions were recorded in a consistent and proper manner. These positive changes have been noted in many successful audits,” she said..

Going forward, she will continue to promote good, sound accounting processes which will enable residents to see where their tax dollars are being spent.

“I will emphasize continual education, taking note of new technologies and threats and updating our systems accordingly. I also will improve transparency and accessibility, making it more convenient for residents to get the data that they request. Finally, I will continue to provide accurate and timely information to your elected decision makers.”

She added, “I would like to continue to serve the residents of Springfield Township as your fiscal officer.”
