The Lucas County commissioners are developing a strategic plan that will guide future decision-making with a unified purpose.
At the November 7 meeting, the commissioners approved an agreement with consulting firm Experience Management Institute to help create, communicate and implement the plan over the next year.
The strategic plan, spearheaded by Commissioner Lisa Sobecki, is the first of its kind for the board and will ensure county government can most effectively address the modern challenges its residents and departments face.
“We are thrilled to move forward with our efforts to develop a strategic plan to better serve our residents,” the commissioners said in a joint statement. “The mission of this initiative is to drive everyone in the same direction with a shared vision and common set of goals. In order to put forth this blueprint to maximize our potential as a county, we must establish open communication and buy-in from all stakeholders, including our residents, businesses, community partners, unions, and our county employees. We look forward to collecting feedback to give our community members a voice in the future of the place where they live and work.”
Tuesday’s board action follows the conclusion of a pre-planning phase that identified points of pride and areas for growth within county government.
Once completed, the strategic plan will provide a comprehensive roadmap to prioritize projects, efficiently allocate resources and align multiple stakeholders around a single, forward- focused vision.
“This strategic plan will set our county departments up for continued success and put Lucas County in the best position to serve our residents,” the commissioners said. “This will not be a plan that simply sits on a shelf and collects dust, but rather a living document that will grow with us and guide our initiatives of the future.”
