Commissioners take action on personnel matters

The Lucas County commissioners took action on a number of personnel matters at the July 13 meeting. The board:

•Appointed Brianna Barnett, Molly Farris, Skaini Ibrahim and Deidra Pless to specialist 2 positions in the department of job and gamily services for $16.84 per hour.

•Promoted Anita Prielipp coordinator of community and agency outreach in the child support enforcement division of job and family services. Her salary will be $25.06 per hour.

•Employed Mallory Laginess to fill the position of canine care technician for canine care and control at an hourly rate of $16.05.

•Hired Robert Johnson as utilities worker I/II in the sanitary engineer department. He will be paid $17.73 per hour following the transfer of his Florida water/wastewater licenses and certifications to Ohio.

•Employed Patrick Holland to fill a vacancy as capital projects manager at a rate of $33.66 per hour.

•Appointed Raymond Conners to building technician in the facilities department for $22.11 per hour.

•Hired Flornosa Holmes as custodial worker II, at an hourly rate of $15.27.

The commissioners also appointed two people to the Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful litter prevention and recycling advisory board.

Melissa Greene Hopfer and Julie Riley begin their terms immediately and will serve until December 31, 2024.

Other Business

In other business, the commissioners:

•Approved plans, specifications and a cost estimate for the county engineer’s 2021 long line painting program.

The engineer plans to paint 153 miles of center line, 276 edge line miles and six miles of lane line as well as auxiliary markings on various road sections.

Cost for the work is estimated at $210,000 with funding from license plate fees and gas taxes.

•Renewed the third of four options with Aramark Correctional Services for food service at correctional treatment facilities.

The contract runs from August 1 to July 31, 2022 and will not exceed $1.05 million.

•Authorized the sheriff’s department to apply for a $72,000 grant through the U.S. Department of Justice to be used for the purchase of body-worn cameras and related equipment. No match is required, said Megan Vahey Casiere, county administrator.

•Approved a lease buyout of a 2018 Jeep Compass for the county sheriff from VAUL Trust through Yark Automotive Group for $17,102. The three-year lease had been set to expire July 16.

•Authorized the prosecutor’s office to apply for a grant of up to $37,500 for the county’s victim-witness assistance program.

•Accepted a technology grant from the Supreme Court of Ohio. The $7,530 award will be used to fund replacement of microphones in the courts.

•Awarded Honeywell International of Toledo a contract to upgrade the enterprise buildings integrator (EBI) system at the corrections center, 1622 Speilbusch Avenue, Toledo, at a cost of $91,850.

The current EBI–which controls fire alarm and life safety applications throughout the building–is no longer supported by the manufacturer, necessitating an upgrade.

•Entered into an agreement with the Salvation Army of Northwest Ohio for the purchase and distribution of student backpack kits to K to 12 students in need throughout the Toledo Public Schools system. The cost will not exceed $15,000.

The next county commissioners meeting is at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 27 in the commissioners hearing room, First Floor, One Government center, Toledo, and is open to the public.
