At the December 7 meeting, the Lucas County commissioners approved 2022 appropriations of $584,079,540.
They also approved several employee benefits programs. The contracts take effect March 1, 2022 and run through February 28, 2025 and include Paramount health care for medical plans; Delta dental for the dental program at an annual cost of $115,000; Benecard pharmacy drug program, $125.68, single and $301.63 for families; group term life insurance with Metlife and accidental death and dismemberment coverage at a cost of 14 cents per $1,000 of coverage.
Following an executive session, the commissioners authorized pay rate adjustments in 2022 for members of AFSCME Local 544-01 representing the Department of Jobs and Family Services (JFS) employees and the department's security bargaining unit. The employees will receive a pay increase of 4 percent next year.
The commissioners also entered into one-year agreements starting January 1, with Orkin pest services $90,000, and property in surance with the Hylant Group. The policy provides $500 million per occurrence and has a deductible of $100,000 per occurrence.
They also renewed a contract with strategic enrollment services for voluntary worksite benefit administration and insurance coverage with no change to the rates or terms.
Personnel
After an executive session, the commissioners took a number of personnel actions. They:
•Appointed Seth Wilson as administrative assistant 2 at an hourly rate of $22. 11. He fills a full-time vacancy.
•Named Jamie Barkimer as eligibility specialist 2 in JFS, $ 16.84 per hour, filling a part-time opening.
•Employed Clifton Beasley as a full-time economic support worker for the JFS at an hourly rate of $14.58.
•Promoted Corinne McCormick to fill a JFS opening as a medical unit services coordinator for $26.86 per hour.
•Appointed Wendy Wasiner as EMS equipment technician 2, a permanent part-time position, for $ 15 per hour. Other Business In other business, the commissioners:
•Accepted 10 grant awards from the MacArthur Safety and Justice Challenge. Eight grant awards of $10,000 were awarded to Above and Beyond Care Behavioral Health Inc., African American Police League, Believe Center, Fredrick Douglass Center Association, Madd Poets Society, Pathway Inc., Salem Lutheran Church and Stand Up-Man Up. Grants of $7,500 will go to All In Academy Inc. and the City Park League.
•Extended a lease agreement with the Sofia Quintero Art and Cultural Center through September 30, 2022 for $4,200.
•Renewed the criminal justice coordinating council justice information services through NORIS for $10,000.
•Extended by one year a service agreement for an educational program for parents involved in divorce, di ssolution, change of custody, paternity or other cases involving minor children.
•Contracted with the City of Sylvania for programs with suburban court services.
•Entered into a five-year agreement with Sadler-NeCamp/Proward for case management extended warranty and software for the domestic relations court. The costs will be $101 ,300, in 2022; $ 103,900, 2023; $106,500, 2024; $109,200, 2025, and $112,000, 2026.
•Approved adoption of the county assets policy to ensure proper completion of financial statements and to align with the Ohio auditor's office.
