County reminds residents to renew dog license for 2023

The Lucas County Commissioners and the county auditor’s office remind residents that the 2023 dog license renewal period is under way and will continue through January.

“If your dog runs away or comes up missing, the license tag on your dog provides the best way of notifying you if someone finds your pet wandering and lost,” said Commissioner Gary Byers. “Getting or renewing your 2023 license tag will help canine care and control get your dog back home to you safely.”

One-year, three-year and permanent dog licenses can be purchased without penalty. Fees for licenses are $25 for one year, $75 for three-years and $250 for the life-of-a dog option.

“Having your dog licensed helps identify your pet should it become lost. In 2022, many of the dogs found wearing a license were returned to their owners quickly. We want the same outcome for all dog owners in Lucas County,” Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak said.

Dog licenses may be obtained at the main branch of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library system in downtown Toledo or at any of the 19 branches throughout the county.

“The 2023 license will be your pet’s ticket home, should he or she get lost,” said Commissioner Pete Gerken. “Please help us and canine care and control to help you keep your pet safe. License your dog today.”
